Passage to Blanes – Spain

The day went smoothly, the water was as flat  as a pond… we saw tunas jumping around at dusk. The night watch was a bit eerie, there was quite a bit of a haze on the sea, no moon and it was very, very dark, we could hardly see the horizon. There was not much traffic and very little lights, even the stars were subdued. I had found a French radio station (RCN Radio) and as soon as Ian went to bed at 9pm, I was bopping around the deck to the sound of old French songs. I had a ball for 4 hours, singing along to old tunes, going back in time – amazing that I could remember the words to songs I had not heard for over 30 years. Highlight of the morning, more dolphins came frolicking around us in the sunrise… it was just fabulous.

Motoring is not fun, but the wind was not playing nice, hardly any and again in the wrong direction. To make things a bit more difficult, Ian noticed that the engine oil needed topping up, not by much but sufficiently to indicate that there was a problem developing. We only had 6/7 lire of oil on board and he had already put in 1 litre in, in the space of 24 hours. So after 30 hours and 60 miles, we thought it safe to put in Blanes and investigate the oil issue as well as finding more oil, just in case. We had done so much motoring that we also needed some fuel.
