Up the west coast of Corsica

Ile Lavezzi-South Corsica

We are close enough to scrutinize the shore and the binoculars are out all day. The most spectacular sight came into view when we rounded the southern point of Corsica and started on our way north on the west side. Sheer cliffs of honey coloured rocks emerging from the sea, topped by terracotta roofed buildings, tottering on the edges of the cliff. It looks absolutely stunning and we spent hours trying to figure out where the entrance of the harbour is, the rock face does not seem to have any chinks in it. We would have like to stop, but the pilot book mention that unless you reserve a berth at least 2 weeks in advance, you have little chance of finding room during the summer
months and even looking at it from afar you can see why. Bonifacio- South CorsicaWe will have to come back to Corsica at some point, only to see Bonifacio.

We need to make some headway north as we have arranged to meet with Cecile in Porticcio, near Ajaccio, where she lives at the weekend.

Bay San Pellegrino West Corsica

We have picked an anchorage for the night in Campomoro, about 25 miles away from Ajaccio, so that Friday we can be in the vicinity quite early and make the most of it. The pilot book is gushing about the baie and I guess everyone has read it, it is popular… we anchor

so crowded you can hear conversations going on 4 boats away… still it is beautiful and looking at the little harbour, the palm trees swaying in the wind and the red cliffs surrounding us and the ubiquitous Genoese tower, you can tell why this is so busy.
