Tobago – Charlotteville

Tuesday 10th October
Charlotteville
Time to be on the move again, Charlotteville is next. We are there by lunch time. The depth in the anchorage is over 20m which is a bit of a challenge, especially when we have to re-anchor. Bringing the anchor back up proved to be difficult when the rope we added to the chain got caught in the fairlead and would not budge. It took a little while, a few ropes and all of Ian’s imagination to make it work. Still good practice, we know how to proceed next time. Trip on shore to check out, the wind is South East and Barbados is only 110 miles away…we did not think we could go to Barbados, it is in the wrong place in the prevailing east winds so when he opportunity arise we can hardly let it go. Again the Doyle’s book makes it sound like a must. So that what we are going to do. We need to stretch our sea legs, we have been at anchor too long really and the passages both to Trinidad and Tobago done under engine have not felt like sailing. The checking out formalities are taken care of with a minimum of fuss and we decide to spend our TT$ in the restaurant and shops. The rest of the afternoon we spent walking out to the fort and then to Pirate Beach, stopping off for an ice cream on the way. The place is sleepy and does not come to life until the buses pour out their cargo of school children, all in their uniforms, skipping and jostling on the way home.
