Sunday in Deshaies

Thursday 9th November

Frankie and Steve are leaving us this morning. We carry on to Pigeon island where we are hoping to do a bit of snorkelling, weather permitting. We had a nice sail up, arriving just before sunset. It is beautiful but a bit rolly. Hopefully tomorrow will be quieter.

Saturday 11th November

Today is no better, the wind is up, the swell is a bit high and there are a lot of boats, snorkelers and divers around Pigeon Island. We give it a miss in the end and carried onto Deshaies. We arrive in the afternoon, in time for a swim and a fabulous sunset. The town looks pretty from here, with its church towering above the harbour.

Sunday 12th November

Love Sundays in anchorage. No matter on which island you are, you can be sure that there will be some boats out on the water, either on practice or racing. Think today is racing day, and the local boats are really tiny with huge sails. There are only 5 of them, but given the shouting, they take it extremely seriously.  The whole girls crew on Ti Bijou, pink and mauve sails. Are giving as much as they get. Amazing the way they hang their whole body backward, hands nearly touching the water outside of the hull to counterbalance the strength of the wind. Looks exhilarating/ Bet these girls have 6 packs. We spend a good chunk of the day just cheering them on as they zoom up and down the bay. Pure joy to watch them.
