Barbuda – Cocoa Point

Wednesday 17th January 18
We could stay here forever but we want to go and have a look at the southern side where all the reefs are. We may be able to snorkel off the boat in White Bay. Off course the wind picks up as we make our way south. In the event we anchor off Coco Point where we are somewhat sheltered. Not many boats in the anchorage. The resort has suffered but again I am surprised that apart from one building which has collapsed like a house of cards, most of the other buildings have standing walls. Roofs and coconut trees have been blown to the ground. It is so sad; it must have been so pretty. Again nature is recovering fast, flowers and trees are covering up the gaping holes in the buildings. The houses are all open, some windows and doors are still intact. The most interesting thing is that people have been through them and picked up some stuff which has been laid on the outside, ornament and furniture laid out artistically. We watch astonished when people help themselves to sun beds and chairs dragging them on the beach. Admittedly, they also put them back when they finished with them. We also witnessed people bringing stuff out and taking it back to their boat…
Later in the afternoon, we take a walk on the long golden beach, following the sand pipers’s little dance in and out of the lapping waves.
And we all went home and had a nice cup of tea on Christine!
