Antigua – Deep Bay

Sunday 26th November

Deep bay

Only a short hop to deep bay. We want to go and have a snorkel on the wreck lying in the middle of the bay, so  close to the surface that you can see one of its funnel poking out. The bay itself is beautiful, only two other boats in, plenty room. It is a bit more built up but in a nice way, not too obtrusive.  And it has a fort at the top of the hill.

Monday 27th November

We go snorkelling on the wreck first ting in the morning, before the wind gets up. And it is brilliant, I’d never seen a wreck for real. Loads of coral around but  not so many fish. It is a bit eerie though to see the hull lying at the bottom on the sand. Since we are in the water we go and explore the rocks around the island and all the way back to the beach. Lovely clear water. Loads of fishes there.  A rest stop on the beach to warm up and then swim back to the boat.  We’ve been swimming for over 2 hours, nearly lunch time! Wanderlust came and say hello, we’ll definitely see them when we get back, we now know where they live!

Late afternoon we go and explore the fort, the light at this time of the day is fantastic. We have a 360 degree view all the way to St John with Deep Bay and its lagoon. The only residents of the hill are a horde of scared goats roaming the hill and scattering as soon as you get close.  We watch the sunset from shore for a change and scour the beach for treasures. On the way back we are kindly invited on board of Compass Rose (Franck, Carolyne and Mad Max), we met in Jolly Harbour marina. Tales are told over Dark and Stormies. Very enjoyable evening.
