Fakarava – Harifi Reef

Harifi

The weather is still touch and go. The wind is very high, much to the delight of the kite surfers, plenty of them   here. I counted up to 12 kites up in the air one afternoon and that was without my one…. The little stunt kite we have been carrying has finally come out and great fun it was too. Not sure Ian got the hang of it yet. There is just about enough sunshine to enable us a few forays ashore for long walk on the island. We met with 2 young lads from Tahiti coming to take care of the copra for a month or 2. They have been working solid, cleaning up and collecting the coconuts. In a month, they reckon   they will have 2 tons of copra to be collected when the boat turns up and at 465 francs a kilo, that will be a neat little sum. They also give us a bit of family history and the island.

On the social scene we met quite a few people, we had an interesting evening on board Mia, Laurent, Michal and their 2 daughters – best carbonara ever, Larus and Joy and loads of chit chat on the beach.
