Fakarava – Back to Rotoava

Sailing back to Rotoava

That was a really nice sail back up the atoll. Bright sunshine and just about enough wind made for a pleasant passage of over 30 miles, did take us all day mind, but we enjoyed it . we are against the clock again, the wind is supposed to died down for a few days and we want to be out of Fakarava. The next stop is Toau, anse amyot wich is a blind passe, forming a nice sheltered anchorage with plenty corals and fishes to have a look at. Unfortunately, after the few days without wind, the forecast is for extremely strong winds, not sure at this stage what we will do. Still we make the most of our afternoon here, having a last look at the village, and the reef. Unfortunately, we have to make do with a pot of ice cream from the petrol station, the ice cream parlour is shut for holiday. Early morning before we go, we planned to go to get some bread, mark from Jollydogs offers to take us… we are so early that we even manage to get the last croissants what a treat. Later in the morning we set off for toau, as it is almost 40 miles, we barely make it before sunset. The wind actually died on us about 2 hours away from the anchorage, we kept the asymmetric up and put the engine on, 6 knots all the way. All the moorings are taken so we have to anchor in the dark. Fortunately,   Marea, the beautiful superyatch, with sails,  is lit up like a Christmas tree providing excellent light to do so.
