Papeete – Banana Races

Papeete

12.07.19

The Heiva is in full swing, a month long celebration of Polynesian culture at its best. We'd heard on the local radio about the banana races this afternoon, and we are there in good time to position ourselves right on the starting line. Brilliant fun we got to see extremely fit people, both men and women running around barefoot carrying up to 50 kg of bananas and  tarot roots on bamboo poles adorned with tropical flowers under a tropical sun! And Miss Tahiti was on hand to dish up the trophies. We had to leave before the end though, Laura and Gergun are coming to dinner.
