Raiatea – Faaroa bay

Raiterea

17 August 19 -  29 August 19

The passage from Huahine to Raitera is not long and yet again the best bit is going through the passe. Absolutely stunning views, the passe is marked by two small islands, white sand and palm trees, huge mountains form the backdrop. We are guided through by some dolphins going in, surfing on the waves... Too busy steering to play. Our first  anchorage is at the head of the bay well tucked in... Expecting a bit of wind, we should be fairly well protected here. The second day is sunny so we take the dinghy for a row. No point getting the outboard out, we are going in the river and there is not much depth. As soon as we reach the river mouth the wind drops, there is not much current and we have a great day meandering gently between vegetables gardens and orchards to start with. Further on it becomes wilder. Trees encroaching on the river and the depth reducing to nothing. We have a bit of a paddle and turn back for home. Plenty of flowers to look at, people tending their gardens and kids playing in the river... Perfect Sunday afternoon stuff.
