Moorea – Cook’s Bay

Moorea

22 July 19 - 7 August 19

What a nice sail up to Moorea, we have a bit of wind and the waves are not so high, and in the right direction. We do keep a good lookout for whales, the first one have been sighted around Papeete... Maybe we'll be in luck. By early afternoon we are in the lagoon at the entrance of Cook's bay, in 3.5m, sandy bottom, with water so clear we can see the fishes. It is so special that we stay 3 nights there. One day we snorkel on the reef, coral is not so good but there are plenty fishes. We go and have a look at the village also, which is not so far. More pearls shop, and I finally found my reef shoes. Expensive mind.  Although we found plenty room to anchor in, one of the catamaran in front of us managed to drag his anchor, aiming straight for us, with no one on board. Fortunately his friends are paying attention and get to it in no time. Ian is not to be left out of the rescue operation, he will be the one being taken to roam the village, in his swimming trunk and another man's flipflops, miles too big, to get the owner back. He'll also be the one spending literally hours in the water checking the anchor for them as they repeatedly try to have is sunk. Admittedly, he has a vested interest in them staying put.

We move to the bottom of Cook's bay, nearer to the small village and the start of the walk.
