St Martin – Marigot

Saturday 17th Feb 18

Marigot Bay

By 8am we are ready to slip. The bridge is opening up at 8.30am, we should make it comfortably,  well we would do if we did not yet again go to ground, not once, not twice but 3 times. Fortunately, we were going so slow that we did not dig ourselves in so we could get off fairly easily each time.  We finally managed to get to the bridge by the skin of our teeth. The wind and swell are to get bad by Sunday, don’t want to be in Simpson bay so we’ll try Marigot bay on the French side. We are sailing close to the coast and from that angle things do not look so much better. The buildings all along the beaches are in a real state.   Heartbreaking.

The anchorage is fairly busy and there is not much depth so we can get too far in. Hopefully we should be sufficiently sheltered here.

Sunday 18th Feb 18

Marigot bay

Little sortie on shore to clear in and stretch leg. Surprisingly, the market is on.  Not many stalls but nice and colourful. The town is deserted though, no one around at all. Little walk around and up to the fort for stunning view onto the bay then back in before dark.

Monday 19th Feb 18

Chores day, washing, shopping. Love the French launderette, nice, clean, tidy and at 5 euro a pop very reasonable.

Weather is getting worth we are boat bound for the next 2 days... yet again! The swell is something else and so is the wind, not way I am going out in the dinghy in that!
