Nevis – Charlestown Walk

Charlestown & the Hamilton plantation ruins

Wednesday 31st Jan .18

The weather is now much better, time to explore the southern bit of Nevis. Once again we take the bus, and once again it does not take long. The bus is much quieter today, no raucous laughter to be had. The views are stunning. We are back in town by lunch time and Ian decides to have his haircut in a snazzy barber. Only trouble, they only speak Spanish!  Still the end result is great so he will now only have his hair cut in Spanish.

We spend the rest of the afternoon wandering around the town and up the Belmont estate ruins of a sugar mill. I do love my ruins and this one is particularly atmospheric.  The emblem of Nevis  is the Green Vervet  Monkeys, we now know why, they are everywhere, and not shy either.

I could have spent a bit longer on Nevis. There was still more trail to hike, but we need to press on. Next stop, St Eustatius, Statia for short.
