Willemstad day 1

Thursday 29th November 18

We need to go to Willemstad the capital to check in with the authorities, so off we trot on the free bus to the supermarket, so we can get some cash. We need Florins around here, going back into times. The town is only 30 mn away and we are soon done with the immigration and customs business.  It is still early so we take the opportunity to explore. First impression, it is really pretty, again colourful and looks prosperous. The buildings have been taken care of and there is only one eyesore. We love the swinging bridge and the more popular area on the other side of the river. The streets are bustling with people. Back on  the  heritage side, we stumble on the floating market. The produces sold there are the best looking fruits and vegs we have seen for a while... all straight from Venezuela. The languages are just as confusing as in Bonaire. No radio station in English, so I had a go at listening to the Spanish one. The only one I can understand is the national radio from Venezuela.

Two cruise liners at docked so the town is quite busy. The cruise village is in the Rif fort, it is nice and Christmassy although I can’t get my head around the amount of expensive stuff there is in the shop. Love the fake infinity beach with view on the cruise ship.

Friday 30th November 18

There is a net here, well the Suzie Too rally is running the net, and to our delight, Steve from Wanderlust is doing the weather... brilliant we’ll be catching up with them and Di and Jeff from Canapeasia. This is group 2 of the rally, only 15/20 boats, a much smaller group. They are going to practically the same place as us until Panama and then visiting all the Central American countries, ending in Belize in May. We would have liked to join but it doesn’t fit with crossing the Panama Canal in march. We have had to give up going to Cuba, not enough time.
