Bus to Knip

Monday 3rd December 18

Time to explore the top of the island. There are plenty buses, not that frequent but with a bit os studying form we can make it work. So it is the bus to Willemstad first and then on to Knip, just because it is there when we get there , ready to go. Once we have cleared the suburbs of Willemstad, the scenery becomes wilder. We catch sight of the sea now and then, but we are mainly surrounded by the brushy bushy hills, with millions of candelabra cacti. It is very arid, sparsely inhabited, only a few villages now and then with huge churches and graveyards. We find also a few new housing developments in progress, some of them in the middle of nowhere. Love the landhuis, equivalent of the old habitations [we are still not sure what the people here were growing but there is  now little sign of agriculture of any kind going on apart from the odd vegetable garden with potatoes mainly].  The hills are getting bigger as we near the north coast.
