Walk to Rincon

Tuesday 27th nov

Our last day on Bonaire and we fancy a bit of a leg stretch... 26 kms and 123m climb over the distance, should do it, there should be a path that will take you, we never found the beginning of it so we do most of the route to Rincon on the road, only the last third on a unpaved road. Thankfully the roads are not so busy. The sun is absent today, it is overcast which is perfect for walking. And it is interesting to see the other side of Bonaire. Loads of new building are going up and not all of them are high market nor in the best position. We soon reach the wilderness, nothing but low bushes and candelabra cacti. The undergrowth is alive with lizards of all sizes and plenty birds about. We even saw some parrots. Rincon is very small and not in the same league as the capital. Still we find a bakery open, Ian is happy and I find the graveyard, I am happy. Very colourful it was too. The way back is much quicker, and the goats are keeping us company most of the way. We get back in town in time to check out, we’ll be leaving early tomorrow morning for Curacao. We have a last ice cream whilst watching the cruise ships depart and disappearing in the sunset.
