San Nicolas

layout though. Coming home is not fun though, we got drenched to the bones.

We brave the elements again today, the wind and waves are really terrible here. We catch the bus in town and cross the whole of the island lengthwise to San Nicolas. The terrain is very much like Curacao quite flat with a few conical mountains and plenty of candelabra cacti. It is always fun to get on the local buses. Surprisingly, Aruba is home to a huge refinery and a big oil depot in the south, we had a glimpse of them from the sea when we arrive. And San Nicolas is obviously a newish town servicing the refinery, one of the suburb is called Essoville. Still we are glad we came, loads of artworks everywhere, mainly murals… a lot of very talented people around here. Again downtown feels a bit dilapidated in places but some buildings have been restored. Loved the art deco water tower, it is a museum now, unfortunately closed. Plenty of bars, eateries and night clubs, mostly owned by Chinese. There must be a large community as most of the supermarkets also have Chinese names.
