St Kitts – Brimstone Fort

St Kitts
Brimstone Fort
The marina in the light is actually more scary than at night. I doubt we would have stopped if we had seen it, especially at US$20 a night. However, it is only a short walk to the Brimstone fort, which is what we came to see. As luck would have it, we were in the way as some boats were booked in to go back in the water this morning. It was surprising to see the number of boats out of the water in the field over the road. A few of them with their owner busily getting ready got get back in the water.
The fort was fantastic, very striking with its black stone, very atmospheric. And the views from up there were fabulous. Loved it.
Back to the boat early afternoon, we move onto Basse Terre only 10 miles away, where there should be a bit more breathing room and adequate facilities.
We arrive with the rain and the marina is very, very small, hardly room to swing a cat! Despite having booked a place, there is no room for us, but the harbour master takes pity on us and let us tie up on the fuel pontoon for the night. That means we will have to move in the morning.
