Prickly bay – Rain, rain, rain

Grenada

Monday 26th June

Ron and Nicole have a Bowman 45 (1978) and seeing how interested we were, they invite us to come and have a look at it. I must say that the only boat Ian and I agreed on without any questions when we were looking was a Bowman 47 and we are keen to see Fairy Queen. Not disappointed, it is a beauty. I love all the quirks, shelves disappearing as if by magic, the wood, the curved door, the rounded drawers and the flag locker, it is jam full with lovely touches and has immense character.  Their story is fascinating too. Refurbishing the boat has been a labour of love and they have succeeded in making it very special. Very inspiring couple.  So pleased we were invited on board.

Wednesday 28 June

Not sure about this hike today. It has been raining most of the night, and very heavily. When we wake up at 6am, the drumming on the hatches is deafening and looking out it does seem to be stopping soon. The radio weather forecast is not promising, heavy rain showers and thunder all day. The trails will be very muddy and slippery too, does not sound like fun to me, I bail out, Ian can go, I am staying in the dry. Ron called Al and they are both discussing the trail; Al has done the walk before and is up for it but mentioned that a 50 feet rope may be need for the last part of the hike. Well that does it; I am definitely not going now! Ian is still wavering so he talks to Ron and by the end of the conversation he is not going either. Sounds like our chickening out decided Ron to pull the whole thing… Shame I was looking forward to a good day hike, but not in the rain.
