Maintenance in the sun

Sunday 2nd June

Ian has been going on for a while about changing the anchor chain to a 10 mm. We have an 8mm chain at the moment, he found the right size gypsy drum, and he has tried to take it off without success. Steve turns up to give him a hand and between the two of them (and the aid of the forceps), they manage to take it apart. Next thing is to replace the current chain with the fatter one. Easily done once we have taken a nearby buoy. To celebrate this success, we are invited back to Wanderlust for drinks (Steve makes his own ginger beer!). We spend a nice afternoon chatting away. These two have been places and done stuff! Amazing stories. And it is nice that we can make English jokes and all present get it. Sam is going back to Wales for a funeral; I suspect we will be seeing Steve a bit this week.

The following few days we are try to get into a routine, work on the boat, then have a bit of a swim or snorkel in the afternoon.  We have a nice snorkelling spot in swimming distance of Mr X, which is great. Loads of rocks and plenty fishes. The coral is mainly brain coral, not so much of it but nice all the same. We even saw a kind of eel, bright green melting perfectly with the surrounding grass at the bottom, until it got spooked and spooked me by burrowing into the sand, clouds of bubbles all around me. We have seen turtles and even a ray doing its belly flop thing. I haven’t dare taking my new camera underwater yet… don’t want to loose it!

We had a drink with Karen, Wills, Steve and another British couple. Again, loads of stories flying around.
