Lemon Cays
Thursday 7th – Sunday 10th Feb 19
Moving west, we need to be in Shelter Bay for being measured around the 10/11 th Feb. The weather is supposed to get bad with wind up to 30 knots according to the forecast we have seen. Not that many sheltered anchorage and they tend to be packed. We decide to hide out in the lemon cays, not too far from porvenir. That will set us up nicely for the 40 miles to Colon when the wind gets back to reasonable speed.
Getting inside the ref was exciting, the waves are a bit high, the wind is a bit strong and we are surrounded by reefs a bit too close for my liking. It doesn’t help that there is a big boat awash on the reef, being pummeled by the waves. Still we made it to the anchorage. Not much room nor depth. The is a little resort on the island behind us. With its wooden huts hanging over the water, I thought we would end up on their verandah when we swung to the wind.
We spent our first night alone in the anchorage. For the next 2 nights we had company. Wind is a bit too strong for exploring in the dinghy. So we do some jobs on board.
